D-Term 2019
D-Term 2019 Beyond the Pin Factory: Real Firms, Local and Global - 6005 - DECM 115

Prerequisites/Notes: ECON 100

Catalog Description : Adam Smith famously used the example of a pin factory to illustrate some of his theories. Where did he learn about pin-making? From a French encyclopedia. We will step outside the usual economics curriculum and study real firms around us. Through site visits and readings on each firm and industry, we will gain a solid understanding of economic activity in the area and learn economics through real-world, real-time case studies. Includes several day trips.
