Catalog Description : This interdisciplinary course explores 21st century East Asia through language, music, and food culture. Students will explore how these aspects shape identity, resistance, and globalizations. Topics include Chinese languages as tools of identity-making, the transregional nature of Chinese popular music, and the global influence of Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine. Students will engage with theoretical readings discussions, and hands-on projects, with assessments including papers, presentations, and final projects.
