Prerequisites/Notes: Junior or senior standing and at least two other courses in the social sciences Catalog Description : An exploration of African culture and history through literature and film by African authors/directors. Issues to be explored include African debates on colonialism, post-colonialism, gender, class, and ethnic stratification, religion, modernization and development. Fictional works will be discussed in tandem with ethnographic monographs and critical essays.
