Catalog Description : An examination of modern thought focusing on the problem of self and society since the late 18th century. Topics include individualism and individuality, “economic man,” socialism, feminism, fascism, existentialism, and post-modernism. Readings from Adam Smith, J. S. Mill, Dostoevsky, Marx, Freud, Woolf, and Foucault. (E) PREREQUISITES: Sophomore standing or consent of instructor
