Catalog Description : Seminar on Euro-Asian borderlands, with a focus on East Asia during the Modern Period. Adopting a transnational approach, the course examines the fluidity of the concept of the “frontier,” along with various understandings of what borderlands are, from the perspective of both indigenous peoples and those from afar. (G&C) Fulfills seminar requirement. PREREQUISITES: Junior standing or consent of instructor
