Catalog Description : Surveys the art and architecture of the Byzantine Empire, including mosaics, metalwork, icons, manuscripts, textiles, and other arts. Emphasizes the transition from classical Roman society, the patronage of Byzantine political figures, the profound importance of religion for the arts, and international contacts, especially with western Europe and the Islamic world. PREREQUISITES: ARHI 100 or sophomore standing
