This course allows for an in-depth examination of various aspects of filmmaking, with a dual focus on close reading of related film studies texts and practical exploration of advanced techniques, culminating in a final video project.
Topic for Spring 2015: Documentary Structure & Sequencing
An exploration of the history, theories, and practice of sequencing within the documentary form, this course places particular emphases on issues of representation and working with found, archival, and gathered footage. Students examine diverse approaches to crafting both overall film structures and shot-to-shot relationships through editing exercises, lecture/discussion, and close readings, culminating in a final documentary project.
