Prerequisites/Notes: One 200- or 300-level course in art history, or consent of instructor

Catalog Description : An examination of a particular topic in modern or contemporary art history. The topic will change periodically. Course may be repeated when topic is different. Students are expected to carry out an independent research project that will serve as preparation for ARHI 680.

Topic for Winter 2017: The Artist's City
Cities are dynamic centers of artistic, political, and social action. This seminar explores architectural design, depictions of cities, and art activism from the nineteenth century to today to consider how artists have experienced and acted within the metropolis and what it might mean to belong to a community.
