Catalog Description : This course will examine the transformations of Islam that have accompanied globalization. Our focus will be roughly split between the theoretical perspective on globalization offered by Olivier Roy and the work of Laila Ahmed on gender in contemporary Islam. Students will develop and write a major research paper. PREREQUISITES: RLST 240
