Prerequisites/Notes: Sophomore standing Catalog Description : This course examines Western encounters with China since the thirteenth century, from Marco Polo to contemporary journalists, such as Peter Hessler. Students will analyze and assess Western perceptions and misperceptions of China through a variety of primary sources in translation and relevant secondary studies.
