Catalog Description : Topics in Film Studies allows for an in depth examination of topics across time, for example, the work of women directors, or it permits a detailed analysis of special topics, for example, Turkish-German or Central European film.

Topic for Spring 2020: History and Theory of the Horror Film
This course will explore the formation of the horror film genre from its early role in international silent film history to contemporary sub-genres such as the slasher film and supernatural horror. We will explore theories of cinematic horror by Carol Clover, Robin Wood, Noel Carroll, Barbara Creed and Harry Benshoff among others.
