Catalog Description :
An examination of a particular topic in contemporary biological anthropological research. The specific topic investigated changes each year. Students are expected to carry out independent research on the topic, either through a review of relevant literature or through field or laboratory work. May be repeated when topic is different.
Topic for Winter 2021: Human Biology of Diabetes
This course will investigate the global increase in the prevalence of diabetes in the 20th and 21st centuries, including sources of variation between individuals and populations, and implications for future health and wellness. The biocultural perspective will include genetic, developmental, physiological, behavioral, and environmental explanations. Readings will include primary and secondary literature. Seminar format with independent student research.
