Topics in this series vary from year to year, according to students’ and instructor’s needs and interests. The course may be repeated with consent of the instructor, if the topic has changed. Taught in Spanish. Topic for Fall 2020: Sor Juana- Writings and Rewritings A renowned poet and scholar, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz is known, somewhat ironically, as the "tenth Muse" of Mexico. In this class , we will study her writings as well as the heterogenous corpus that she has inspired. After exploring her rich, complex oeuvre, we will consider how the nation has grappled with her legacy- and wit her extraordinary place at the center of its canon- over the past 4 centuries.
