Catalog Description :
A course designed to offer students an opportunity to study important issues in biology not covered in other regularly offered classes. Activities may include reading and analysis of material from primary literature, consideration of interdisciplinary connections, and field and laboratory activities.
Topic for Fall 2021: Recent Trends in Parasitology
This Topics course will introduce students to the major groups of parasitic species, their life cycles, physiology, ecology, and effects on host behavior. In addition we will examine the most recent advances in the field, such as emerging parasitic diseases, drug development, and the potential effects of climate change on parasites. This is a lecture only course that will include hands-on activities so students can gain experience in detecting and identifying parasites.
