Topic for Winter 2022: The shadow of doubt: a history of skepticism
The term “skeptic” derives from Ancient Greek terms for examination and inquiry. However, skepticism is often associated with incredulity, doubt, and challenges to deeply held beliefs. In this course we explore the significance of skepticism in different time periods across the globe, not only as a challenge to knowledge but alongside its political, psychological, and moral implications. We will grapple with how examining the boundaries of knowledge can shape how we think of ourselves, the world around us, and beyond.
