Catalog Description : This course will focus on reading a classic text related to the field of religious studies. The work chosen could be related to the philosophy or sociology of religion or have theological or historical importance within a specific religious tradition. May be repeated when topic is different.

Topic for Spring 2022: Bodhicaryāvatāra: The Way of the Bodhisattva
This course focuses on the Bodhicaryāvatāra, a famous Sanskrit poem composed in the 8th century by the Indian Buddhist monk Śāntideva. The text outlines Buddhist ethics and philosophy, and teaches how to live a good life.
