Spring Term 2022 Literature and the Truth: Unreliable Narrators - 3469 - ENG 112

Catalog Description : All first-person narrators are unreliable; everyone's story is biased, incomplete, flawed by memory. Yet certain narrators are particularly suspicious, and this class explores stories told by manipulative, self-deceitful, and unstable voices. Working across multiple genres - including novels, short stories, and visual media - we will investigate what these works ask of readers and how they comment on truth-telling and reality. Assessments: class discussion, reader's journal, essay.
