Prerequisites/Notes: Sophomore standing. Catalog Description : This course surveys African American History from 1607 to 1865. Students will analyze the African origins of this country, the Middle Passage, the different manifestations of enslavement, and the historical changes that shaped African-American life and culture thereafter—from the Revolution to Civil War. Topics will include the gendered experiences of enslavement; slave resistance; the black abolitionist movement in the United States; Civil War; Reconstruction. PREREQUISITES: Sophomore standing.
