Explores a particular topic of current interest in gender studies, and may be cross-listed with other departments. Topics will vary with each offering of the course. Different iterations of the course may be taken for credit with the instructor's consent.
Topic for Winter 2023: Love, Sex, and Globalization
Prerequisites: GEST 100, or another GEST class and consent of instructor
In this seminar course, students will discuss how conceptions of love and sexuality are influenced by neoliberal globalization, geopolitics and the nation state. Students will study the political discourses around sexual orientation, sexual labor, human trafficking, commodified romance, and emotional labor. Students will complete writing assignments and other creative projects throughout the course. The final project will be a paper analyzing a cultural artifact of their choice.
GEST 280 may be repeated when topic is different.
