Topic for Spring 2023: Environmental Documentary
Prerequisites: None
In this course we will be watching, discussing, and analyzing documentaries that focus on the environment and environmental issues. Beginning in the early 21st century, environmental documentary emerged as a vital genre in cinema and as a method for eliciting public engagement with a broad range of environmental issues. Through screenings, readings, media production analysis, and attention to diverse grassroots movements, this course engages the role of creative work in educating the public on environmental conditions, and in addressing social inequalities that force poor and marginalized communities to endure higher levels of environmental risk.
