Prerequisites/Notes: To register student must complete the Student Initiated Course Form with consultation of supervising instructor Catalog Description : Practical experience working with diverse population, focused on volunteer, policy, or advocacy work. For example, students might volunteer to tutor youth in ethnically diverse educational programs, or work with a local immigrant relocation agency. Students work for 5-10 hours a week, depending on the amount of credit being earned, meet periodically with the instructor, and submit a written reflection connecting the experience to their academic work in Ethnic Studies. The academic component of the internship includes readings related to the substance of the internship, discussions with the faculty supervisor, and a written report appropriate to the discipline. Course grades are based on this academic work.
