Winter Term 2025 Introduction to Asian American Studies - 2109 - ETST 160

Catalog Description : This course provides an introduction to the interdisciplinary field of Asian American Studies with particular attention to the experiences and histories that help define what it means to be "Asian American" and to study Asians in the U.S. We will consider who is included in the category "Asian American," who or what determines that identity, and how conceptions of Asian America have changed over time. Drawing on a range of cultural texts, history, policy, race, gender and sexuality studies, we will address topics related to identity formation, community life, migration, immigration, citizenship, labor, empire, globalization, and popular culture.
