Fall Term 2025 Physical Practice: Modern Dance - 5677 - MUDA 147
Registration for this term is over. Changes or corrections to registration now by petition only. Students should contact their academic advisor.

Catalog Description : This studio-based introductory course examines the historical development and current physical practice of American Modern dance. The course focuses on experiencing the basic elements of modern dance: coordination, alignment, rhythm, weight, directionality and presence. These elements are practiced through the lens of four modern dance training techniques: Horton, Taylor, Limon, and Klein Technique. Through viewing film, reading, and physical practice, students gain an embodied sense of the technical dance training as well as the socio-political-historical context for the formation of each technique. This course can be repeated (and can be taken by students who previously took THAR 147 under the old title.) Only 6 units of Physical Practice (any type) can count toward the Theatre Arts major.

Attributes: Music Course, Cross-Listed Course, First Year Friendly, GER Fine Arts Div, 100-199 Introductory Course
