Catalog Description : An introduction to Latin America, from 1821 to the present. Focus is placed on new nations as they struggle to create themselves, and weather the challenges of external influence. Emphasis on how Latin America has developed ethnically, politically, and economically and how these factors affect its position in the world today. Students who have taken HIST 179 may not enroll in HIST 279 for credit. (LA)
