Catalog Description : This course explores how the British Empire impacted on its metropolitan centre from the First World War onwards. Taking broadly chronological approach, it is also organized thematically, exploring how imperialism impacted on diverse aspects of British society, such as the culture of memorialization, foreign policy, theatre, music, education policy and protest movements. This course will involve critical engagement with this history through a wide range of different media, including written texts, artifacts, audio and the London's built environment. It will include trips to museums and galleries and the opportunities to hear from expert guest lecturers. This course begins where Impact of Empire on Great Britain: 1815-1914 concludes, but that course is not a prerequisite for taking Impact II.
