Catalog Description : This studio-based introductory course examines the historical development and current physical practice of American Modern dance. The course focuses on experiencing the basic elements of modern dance: coordination, alignment, rhythm, weight, directionality and presence. These elements are practiced through the lens of four modern dance training techniques: Horton, Taylor, Limon, and Klein Technique. Through viewing film, reading, and physical practice, students gain an embodied sense of the technical dance training as well as the socio-political-historical context for the formation of each technique.
