Prerequisites/Notes: MUCO 211 and MUTH 100, MUTH 151, or MUTH 200, or instructor approval Catalog Description : This seminar course surveys the history of rap music from its origins until the present day and introduces new analytical frames, African American cultural and social topics are foregrounded, including signifyin(g), the "drug war" of the 1980's and issues of gender. Students will develop new systems of graphical transcription for rap songs and create a group presentation on a rapper of their choice.
