Prerequisites/Notes: FIST 100 or consent of instructor Catalog Description : This hands-on course allows for an in-depth examination of various aspects of film and video production, with a dual focus on close reading/ viewing and practical exploration of advanced techniques, culminating in a final film or video project. May be repeated when topic is different TOPICS FOR Winter 2027: Music Video PREREQUISITES: Any 100 level Studio Art or Film & Media course This is a making and discussion course on the topic of music video. Creation of music videos using original music produced by LU students will be encouraged. The relatively short history of the medium will be discussed along with the influence of MTV, DIY accessibility, and the politics of the music industry. Lectures, discussions, readings, and a visiting filmmaker will contextualize contemporary practice. Production conventions including continuity/discontinuousness, synchronization, plots, and performance vs. illustration will be presented.
