Catalog Description : How do film and media produce the spectator in terms of race, gender, sexuality, nationality, and ability? What is at stake in alternative cinemas and oppositional reading strategies? This course explores contemporary issues in film and media theory relevant to broader critical and intellectual debates. Topics include feminist and queer aesthetics; post-colonial, transnational, and oppositional cinemas; disability studies; apparatus theory and psychoanalysis; stardom, performance, and fandom; and genre criticism. PREREQUISITES: Sophomore standing. Previous Film & Media course recommended
