Catalog Description : This course explores the intersections of the histories of empires and North American border formation. It examines the contested spaces inhabited by indigenous peoples and occupied by empires across land and costal zones. We will apply relational race approaches that uncover the interracial and interethnic ties formed within and across border regions between marginalized groups, such as Indigenous, Black, Latine, and Asian communities.
