Prerequisites/Notes: GEST 100 or Instructor Approval Catalog Description : This course evaluates the politics of physical appearance and how standards of beauty and ugliness regulate bodies, shape social norms, and contribute to discriminatory politics. Using intersectional feminist theory and disability studies perspectives, this course examines how racism, sexism, ableism and coloniality influence standards of appearance. Students will analyze how norms of physical appearance are represented in media and culture in national and global contexts.
