Catalog Description : This course introduces students to language construction (ConLanging) as a gateway to exploring linguistics. Through surveying selected constructed languages and typologically different languages of the world, students learn about the make-up of language systems (phonology, morphology, writing, syntax, semantics) and reflect on socio-cultural underpinnings of language creation and use. Through group work, discussion, and presentations, students will apply what they are learning to create and describe their own language. Either LING 150 or LING 175 will satisfy the prerequisite for further courses in linguistics. Attributes: First Year Friendly, 100-199 Introductory Course
